Silly, yet Fun

Photo Link

I fell in love with the Mosey Legwarmer pattern from Knitty the first time I saw it, but I thought it was kind of a silly thing for me to think of wearing. I finally broke down and knitted a pair, telling myself I could always sell them to a deserving teenager at the next Mu Phi Fundraiser. Of course, I find myself liking them a lot, not least because they're so very warm and cozy. You can see them above, with the front at the top and the back below.

And now the moment of truth. Here they are on me. Are they awful, fine, daring, ridiculous, ...? The fact that I'm asking myself this (and you of course) leads me to believe these should stay under wraps. Let me know what you all think, truly. I have a friend here whose daughter would probably take these in a heartbeat, so no worries.

I should say that I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease for these, and it was perfect. It's also the first time I've made pompons, although I'm very familiar with the process. When my mother used to pick us up from school when I was in First Grade, she was making tons of pompons to be used as grapes on an afghan her mother was making her. She would wait in the car, wrapping yarn or brushing it until it was very fuzzy. It was a beautiful afghan. Each bunch had 3 colors of grapes from deep purple to lavender I think, although it seems like some might have been a pale green. I'll have to look at it again. It had panels with long twisting vines and bunches of grapes here and there.

Hi Liana,

First of all, I just wanted to say you always look so stylish and put-together. I LOVE your shoes in these photos!

I would probably pass the leg-warmers on to your teenage friend. Maybe without the pom-poms. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I don't care how silly, they are FANTABULOUS. I am 100 percent in love with them.

This is my opinion---if you like them, wear them. I just wish I could knit.

I don't care if they are silly either. If you love them and get a kick out of them, you should wear them. They're cute. Life's too short to pass on something fun! You may wear them a few times and decide that's enough, and then you can still pass them on to the teenager. K

Liana, I think they're fun. I'd wear them. I agree with ACorgiHouse. Life is way too short to be serious all the time. Sometimes we need a bit of silliness. Enjoy them!

Liana,

I say go for it. Life's too short now to have fun. I think I just paraphrased Melodye, but I didn't mean to. If you find you rarely wear them, gift them to a teenager. Also, think how warm they would be under slacks on a really cold day.

Hey Liana, I LOVE them, they look so warm. Love the color. I predict, the pom-poms will be bothersome as they swing back and forth when you walk, but maybe not. Let us know how you like-em. Gotta love wool-ease.

I think they're super cute. Now, I'm trying to figure how to wear them... They're a bit whimsical, no? So maybe a little more of a bohemian skirt, maybe asymmetrical hemline, a little flow-y... And repeat the color in a wrap or something. As for shoes/boots, I think maybe a chunky heel would work better- or one of my millions of pairs of clogs :)) Ask and you shall receive :))
Your knitting is exquisite, of course.

I agree, Birgitte--These call out for bohemian style! Less tailored lines in the skirt and also the shoes should look less fancy--then I think it would be OK.

Why should teenagers have all the fun? I think the leg warmers are fabulous! I have a pattern for a pair that I've been intending to make. Never mind that I'm 60 years old! I would still wear them!

How fun!

And as for carpool--I am always making yo-yos, making pompoms, sewing on buttons...

Well, I'm in the minority, but I don't think they are your style. I'd give them to the teenager. But it's your call....

Oh Liana..I think they are fun and fabulous! ...especially with the wild winter weather we're having!

Your clothes/items are always so unique and tasteful, I think you should wear them. But, I agree, they need a less tapered heel. Sally

I think Birgitte has hit the nail on the head... they're fun and funky so they need a fun and funky outfit to really work.
So as to whether you should keep them... you would have to answer that... do you do fun and funky? Most of the things you post are more classic and tailored, but if there's another side to you which you don't always show (I know I've seen you post some really fun sweaters you've made!) then you should wear these too. They are wonderful!
A thought... are they a little short? Could you push them down a bit to cover your heel more?

They're cool! Not with that skirt, but they're cool. I can see them with a mini.

Liana, I love these leg warmers!
I could use something like this here. I am forever cold and that would do the trick to help keep me warm and cosy!...but dish cloths is as good as I get for knitting/crocheting! I'm printing the pattern off just in case I ever find someone to knit them for me :) Thank You for sharing it.

I love the pattern. I think they would be great to wear the way you would wear a hat or gloves on a cold day when you wear a dress. You could take them off when you got inside.

I like them. You may start a new trend!

I am very late to the party here, but I agree with the general feel that it is the styling that is wrong rather than the leg warmers. Flat shoes, casual skirt for sure. But if you don't like to dress like that then keep them for home - too much fun to give away.

Ooohhhh, those are great. I love, love, love them.

I think they're cute, but I'd wear them with jeans tucked in, or a peasanty type skirt with flat shoes. Nice job you did on these.

They look great, though I am not a fan of pompoms and would remove them myself... I actually think they look good with the skirt, though it may be partly the colour combination that I like.
