Four Years Blogging

Carolyn got a bunch of us thinking about when we started blogging, and I was surprised to find that my first post was just over 4 years ago. I really didn't think it had been that long, and I'm kind of surprised I lasted. It's fun to think about all the friends I've made and the wonderful blogs I get to read from all over the world. I have to say that my perspective has definitely broadened, thanks to all of you.

So, what was happening then?

Well, Sewing World was still going, and I was participating in the Sharing, Inspirations & Photographs threads there. It would be a couple years before Kathryn and I talked DragonLady into creating Stitcher's Guild at Artisan's Square so we could stay in touch with all of our sewing friends if (when) SW went west. That's been the biggest change for me as far as cyber-sewing.

I have since gotten a new sewing machine, steam generator iron, Embellisher, steam press, and a LOT of fabric and yarn and all the notions that go with that.

What was in that first post?

My First Post was on January 8, 2005. It's a list of the SWAP coordinates I was planning for an expanded SWAP. I finished Stage I on time, and have since completed almost all of the other listed items, although not necessarily with the same patterns I originally planned. It was fun to go back and see how it all turned out. I still wear quite a few of those things, but some have been retired.

Not all of the garments were a complete success, generally the knits. I still do a little bit of guessing about whether a particular knit will be suitable for a particular pattern although I think I'm getting better at it. Knit sewing is just not what appeals to me the most, although I generally like knits for their comfort factor. I guess I should work a little harder at getting experience in choosing and sewing knits.

Happy Blogiversary! You know you are the reason that I blog! I remember when you first shared about it and I thought that I would like to do something like that. It took me a year to get up enough courage to do it but you are my blogs godmother!

Here's to another four years!!!

This has nothing to do with your blogging, though I do appreciate your blog a great deal.
This is a question about your coat. I have finally gotten to sewing my coat and I seem to remember you didn't like the walking ease you'd added. Did you just cut it off after you'd cut your coat? I am not liking how mine makes the front princess seams pull out to the sides. It makes them seem that they are not vertical, which they are. If I overlap the bottom, which is wider due to my addition for walking ease.

Thank you everyone! It's so nice to be appreciated, and Carolyn, I'm honored to be your blog's godmother. :)

NancyK, Yes, I just cut it off to the original cutting line, which I'd thread traced just in case. AnnRowley commented that adding the ease is not done, as far as she ever knew, and when you tape the front edge, just draw it up some more if it wants to hang open. I'm really glad I didn't use the extra ease. I talk about it here.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I didn't mark the original, but I don't think that it will be har to mark it and recut. The facing is exactly the same as the cf piece so I can cut that one and just lay it over the coat. I really don't like how it makes the bottom of this coat wider. Like yours, its meant to be a fairly narrow coat. I think that I will tape the front edge and pull it up if needed.

Congratulations on your fourth year; you blog was one of the first blogs that I found when started browsing the Internet for sewing information. I was amazed by the fact that you could make not only high quality sewn garments but also create accessories like fabric covered shoes to match your creations.

I have the same problem with knits, and I appreciate seeing what you do with yours, especially how you change NE's pattern. It's been very helpful to me. So thanks for that and for all the other information in your blog. I check it out every day.

Congratulations on 4 years of blogging! You must have been one of the first sewing bloggers. 4 years ago I was hardly aware of blogs at all.

Congratulations. I think you were the first blog I came across - via Sewing World no doubt. I find following blogs much easier to follow than the message boards at SG and PR.
