A Gala Evening

Here is the promised photo. Norm, Patti, me and Rhonda at the Lyric Opera's Opening Night. Tales of Hoffman was great, the people-watching was very good, and we finished the evening with a tapas dinner. It was just a lovely evening.

For those of you who know Patti, a small disclaimer; I do have her permission to post the photo of her. Isn't her dress gorgeous? I think that should be her signature color.

One other thing, Patti gave me a rare treat that I forgot to mention. On Thursday afternoon, I got to sit in on the graduate-level statistics course she's attending at Northwestern. I didn't want to make trouble for her by putting this on the blog since I know everyone will be clamoring to go too. Honestly, it was very interesting, and the professor, Bruce Spencer, was most gracious to let me sit in.

Home tomorrow.

Hi Liana,
I only recently found your blog - and have spent some time reading a number of you recent - and past bog entries. I love your creations. And it looks like you had such a wonderful time on your recent trip - thanks for sharing. I do have one question that I am tried to research in your entries, but was unsuccessful - Who is Patti? I feel like I should know, but there are a lot of things I am just learning about in the sewing world.
Blessings,
(another) Patti

We did have a fabulous time! Both Liana's and Rhonda's outfits were spectacular. Other Patti--I am Patti Ferguson--no blog, but I am on Facebook, and mostly lurk on Stitchers' Guild. I am the Vice President for Programs for the Haute Couture Club of Chicago. Liana and I were internet friends for years--finally met in person in 2010--we have been fortunate to have her come to Chicago three times--and we've visited her in Lincoln as well.

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to spend some time with Liana. The picture does not do her dress justice. She looked so regal and lovely. Liana is the personification of grace. A beautiful person inside and out.

Hi! I check on your blog fairly regularly, along with several Sewing Divas etc. and Pattern Review.com. I took private voice lessons, last year, from Susan Lundholm at College of Lake County. Hope you're singing around the house! I put on light opera and lieder cds and sing to them around the house, or with me plunking along on my piano. It's great vocal exercise. Dawn Upshaw, Anne Sofie von Otter, Victoria de los Angeles,Kiri Te Kanawa (the list goes on...) and others like them, have such great techniques to emulate. I live on the North Shore...so glad to see you taking advantage of The Lyric! Keep it up! (just a bit of singing/sharing enthusiasm here!)

Liana, I love love love your dress and shoes and whole outfit! I also love the hand catch stitch for certain hems. When I can, I try to do a machine blind stitch, but on a tightly woven fabric, where the hem is flared, I do think a catch stitch is best. I'm so happy that you had a good time in Chicago. I know the Couture Club appreciated your presentation.
